Ruth Hogan is one of Bedford’s best-selling authors and her book, ‘The Wisdom of Sally Red Shoes’, includes many scenes set in our cemetery where one character walks her dog and imagines what the lives of some people buried here were like.
In this walk, Ruth will point out some of the graves that inspired her, detail the lives she made up about those people and will read short extracts from the book. In tandem with this, Cemetery Guide Adrian Bean will give the true, and in one case, surprising background details of these real people as opposed to the imagined lives. The imagined stories hint at other little-known facts about the cemetery and the nature of the memorials’ hidden messages.
After the walk Ruth will spend plenty of time in chatting with you and signing books while having “the lovely cup of tea” in the chapel.
Meet at the Chapel 10 minutes before the walk.
This event is free to Friends of the Cemetery
Please note: The cemetery ground is uneven, so wear sensible shoes. When viewing memorials, please do not lean on them.
